Can I use DxO Photolab 4 with other software? DxO Photolab 4 is available as a plugin for: Adobe Lightroom Classic CC If I purchase any of the software now, can I install/activate some time in the future? I purchased DxO PhotoLab 2 along with DxO Nik Collection version 1 just three months ago. DxO just updated the Nik Collection to version 2 and will not provide an update for existing owners of the Nik Collection unless PhotoLab 2 is purchased all over again (ie forcing existing PhotoLab 2 owners to buy two copies of the same software) in order to just update their copy of the. DXO Photo Lab needs Windows 8.1 or 10 64 bit. It won't install on Windows 7 Introduction to DXO Photo Lab 3. I've been using DXO Photo Lab since its release and I've used DXO in its previous incarnations for well over a decade. I remain of the opinion that it is the best, or very close to the best, RAW photo converter that money can buy. The new Nik Collection 2 is more accessible than ever before, as DxO is now offering DxO PhotoLab 2.3 Essential Edition alongside the Nik Collection at a discounted rate of $99.99 USD (regularly.

DXO Photolab on Linux! (almost, kindof, notreally but maybe a little bit)
Hi all, Linux+wine can now run DXO photolab! (a bit at least)
I posted here: Move to .net Core? - DxO PhotoLab Windows - DxO Forums
..but will add the rough how-to here description here as well:
  1. Install winehq-staging (version 5.2) and the 191224 winetricks
  2. Install .net 4.8 and d3dcompiler_47 using winetricks
  3. Change windows version to win10 (with winecfg)
  4. Run dxo photolab 3 installer (with wine64)
  5. Change windows version to win7 (with winecfg)
  6. Try to run photolab a few times (doesn't seem to work at first) (with wine64)

…then I can run Photolab 3 under Linux!
So far I think it uses CPU only so it's kind of slow but I will try different direct x variants…dxvk seems to crash it for me, but will try variants of OS setting, net version and direct x drivers installed with winetricks.
I also managed to get DXO Optics Pro 11 to work in a similar way. Worth noting is that when using a 'dirty' wineprefix where I had played around with different directx/dxvk didn't work so use a clean new one.
Also the system and drivers might be a factor, I use kubuntu 19.10, have a nvidia 1070 with the 330 driver and an intel skylake CPU (6700k, yeah yeah I'll upgrade with the next ryzen generation, last one was fine but no ssd vendors really used pcie4 to its full extent so waiting for the next one).
Please let me know if you try it and find simpler or better ways (with GPU/direct x working) to make it work!

Interesting. I gave up on that stuff years ago since it's just asking for problems...might break during an upgrade, that kind of thing. You can run a Windows VM and still launch DXO as an app. There's also native apps that work with RAW files. Good luck!

That's cool and interesting in a science experiment way. But I think for day-to-day RAW editing in Linux Rawtherapee or Darktable are more practical.

Thanks! Yes the risk of breaking exists but I don't think I've ever encountered it with wine in almost a decade, usually goes the other way from not working to working =). Anyway, yes a VM works but not as well as native windows (performance wise) so I've kept dual boot for that but would like to get rid of it, if I can get the wine version to use the gpu (it seems).

Well the install is a bit much, but once you have a 'recipe' like the above it only takes 10-20 min depending on how 'wine/linux-fluent' you are, but after that it's as easy as running it native.
But regarding day-to-day, that was my main point for going with DXO, for a high throughput (images/second and/or clicks/image required) in a 'simple' workflow where most images only require crop+whitebalance+exposure+contrast+shadows/highlights+(auto)noise, from what I've tried DT and RT are miles behind! Just clicking around and scrolling in the gui itself almost doubles the work/time required, otherwise I'd have switched in a heartbeat!

I think it's all in what you're used to and how much you want to automate. I made the switch from Lightroom to RawTherapee something like a couple years ago. It was difficult retraining myself, but now I can do all those basic edits you talk about very quickly.

The latest darktable release has a one-click auto adjust setting that does a serviceable job. And you still have all the other mofules if you want to tweak further.

Do you know if the DXO Photolab 4 would work with Wine, as well?

I haven't been able to try it properly; a few versions back wine-staging (or maybe it was even mainline wine?) introduced a bug that prevents .net being installed (at least using winetricks), which is required for dxo, so I haven't succeeded in making it work any better I'm afraid but continued dual booting into windows...
I read the latest darktable now has completely customizable module groups in the UI, so together with some defaults I was thinking to try it out if I'll be happy with the workflow there as a replacement.
...but whenever a new wine release comes I usually check if they fixed that bug for further testing/exploring, but even if .net is fixed I think this bug also prevents it from working, at least for older releases but I suspect newer dxo releases uses the same: WineHQ Bugzilla ? Bug 45277 ? Multiple applications need Vulkan child window rendering (DxO PhotoLab, Affinity Photo, Google Earth Pro, Autodesk Fusion 360)
Then again I guess dxo will soon start using .net 5, which works for linux as well so increased chances for native version perhaps, or at least easier .net install in wine otherwise, but on the other hand I think they use WPF in DXO which will not be ported to the linux .net version as I understand it so probably not a native version =)
